With the recent media reports on protests against the marking criteria of GCSE’s, MEIC has seen an increasing number of young people contacting the helpline about exam stress.
As compared to the same period last year, MEIC has noted a staggering 30% increase in enquiries relating to education and exam stress. To further support children and young people through this worrying time, MEIC also launched a Facebook campaign, to ensure regular users of social media can easily get in touch to express their concerns.
Exam pressure has caused young people to come through to the helpline extremely worried and concerned as to how they can cope through such a troubling time. The fear of failure is particularly concerning with a proportion of those young people considering suicide or self harm as an outcome should they not achieve the expected grades.
MEIC continues to work endlessly with young people to ensure the appropriate support is made available and they are able to cope more effectively with the pressures they feel during examination time.
