While everyone was enjoying their Christmas dinner and toasting in the New Year, MEIC staff were working hard to support young people across the whole of the festive period.

Between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day the helpline supported 89 young people. About one third of these were young people dealing with mental health issues, self-harm and suicide.

The first day back in January was also a very busy day for the MEIC Team. We were approached by ITV Wales to comment on our experiences with young people contacting us about suicide and mental health issues following a report published by the Prince’s Trust.
