Gwirvol project updates

On Wednesday 25 May, ProMo-Cymru attended the GwirVol Planning Day in Mid Wales to lead a workshop called ‘Developing A Web-Based Portal’.

We talked about the difference between a static website and an interactive portal, and gave advice on how (and why) to transform a static site into a social network.

We’ve also been spending time with GwirForce, their panel of young volunteers committed to promoting and driving forward youth volunteering in Wales.

We had a residential in Brecon, where the young people hosted a very out-of-the-box AGM: staff and advisors were led on a hike, constructed campfires, instructed to build a space shuttle capable of safely housing an egg (which was then launched into the sky) and even writing a theme song for the aforementioned ‘super egg’.

Each task was a metaphor for a different aspect of the volunteering journey these young people have been through thanks to GwirVol, and it was certainly more interesting than a standard AGM!

We then finished off the fun at the Urdd Eisteddfod with Dynamix, who organised tent games, treasure hunts and even Dynamix leader Phil wearing stilts and a viking helmet.
