The five bands who made it through to the CLIC Battle Of The Bands Final put up a fierce fight on Thursday 18th August at Clwb Ifor Bach in Cardiff to win the opportunity of playing on the main stage at the Merthyr Rock Festival.

They delivered a smashing performance which wowed the excitable audience, including the three judges: Matthew Davies, guitarist of The Blackout, Darren Smith, former guitarist of Funeral for a Friend, Paul Gray, Regional Officer for the Musicians’ Union for Wales and the West of England and also former member of the Damned & UFO and current bass player of Captain Sensible.

The first prize of opening the 4,000 capacity main stage on the Saturday afternoon of the Merthyr Rock festival and a Schecter Tempest Custom guitar worth £750 went to Eric Unseen, winners of our Swansea heat at Sin City.

The Hotel Ambush, the heavy metal band who won our Porth heat, took home the second prize of performing midway on the second stage of the festival on Saturday afternoon.

The privilege of opening the second stage of the festival went to Editions, the pop-rockers from South Wales who bagged the third prize.
