MEIC @ Urdd Eisteddfod

Last month, the MEIC team trekked across Wales to attend the Urdd Eisteddfod in Caernarfon to raise awareness of the service and bring MEIC to the masses.

The MEIC team met with over 1200 young people during the week. The first day alone saw just over 300 young people learn about MEIC.

The team was especially pleased to learn how many young people were already aware of the service. One young person commented, “I ring when I have a fight with my friends.” Advisers often receive contacts from children and young people facing problems with friends and spend time with them discussing the issues the young people currently face and how they can move it forward it they are ready to do so.

In some instances this can also mean using self-advocacy to support the cause. Another young person who had faced issues with friends in the past said, “My teacher told me to ring MEIC, I have used it before.”

MEIC’s usage has seen a staggering 90.8% rise in the last 12 months.

By the end of an exciting week at the Urdd, the team was glad to have spread the word to those who had yet to hear of the service, and to have met with so many who were actively using the service or had used it to support them with advocacy and advice. The trek to north Wales was worth the time and the children and young people were most definitely the stars of the week!
